This Via Ferrata is located in the upper left part of the Camp Dresden via ferrata site, and the best access is via Ferrata Elena (C). The Ferrata August the Strong is the first turnoff from Elena and is well marked with a sign. It is a short, somewhat more demanding ferrata. The majority of the route is in slight overhang with two more difficult overhangs (D/E and E), but nothing that experienced climbers cannot handle. The ferrata does not contain any artificial footholds, but the rock is well structured and offers sufficient natural footholds. The ferrata is secured with an optimal diameter along the entire route. On Bergsteiger.com the Ferrata is rated D/E.

Arrival

The address is Tharandter Str. 146A, 01187 Dresden. (Please do not use the GPS coordinates of the parking lot to get there, as you would end up directly above the parking lot on the highway from which you cannot access the Ferrata.)

Boarding

The parking lot is located below the highway directly on the grid. The Ferrata is only a few dozen meters away.

Exit

After the end of the ferrata, turn right and follow the secured path until you reach a stone wall. Climb over the wall using the steps and then turn right onto Wurgwitzer Strasse. Walk down the street until you hit the main street. Turn right and after 350 meters you will return to the Camp Dresden via ferrata. Another descent option is the Ferrata Little Lizard on the far right.

Interesting facts

The Camp Dresden via ferrata was modernized and expanded in 2020. It is open every Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. from March to the end of October and at the same time on the last Saturday of the month. Closed in bad weather. If necessary, call +491723536047. Special appointments are possible for groups of 10 people or more. The entry fee is EUR 13 (as of June 2023), children receive discounts. There are also special events such as Advent climbing.
