Description

Update information

Characteristics

The Burgenklettersteig in Manderscheid is the best non-alpine via ferrata in Germany! The Ferrata has everything a great via ferrata needs - great scenery (beautiful town, mostly by the stream, pure volcanic Eifel), historical highlights (Upper and Lower Castle, old knight's paths) and interesting, sometimes quite crisp via ferrata passages. In this ferrata you traverse primarily along the rocks, of course there are also steep vertical passages - the key to success is often a bit tricky, you have to look left and right for good steps for the feet.

Arrival

Parking lot in Manderscheid.

Approach

Go up the hiking path and right after the bridge across the river is the start of the ferrata.

Exit

From the exit at the Kaisertempelchen, turn left back to Manderscheid. You return to town exactly at the main road, not far from the parking lot.

Interesting facts

The small town of Manderscheid is worth seeing.
