Characteristics
The via ferrata is an easy-to-manage and well-secured route that is ideal for children and beginners. It leads through a picturesque rocky landscape in the forest. After about 50 meters of climbing, you come to a fork in the path. The main path with difficulty level A leads mostly through the forest, while the slightly more demanding variant B runs to the right. Variant B includes an airy cross passage on a vertical wall, a descent via a ladder, the transition via a horizontal ladder and a short bridge. Both paths unite again at the end.
Arrival
Drive from Zell am See towards Lofer. You will come to the town of Weißbach near Lofer, where there are some paid parking spaces on the right. Another option is a free parking lot with limited capacity for 6-8 cars, reserved specifically for climbers. The coordinates are: 47.52086, 12.75827. This parking lot is located on the descent path of the Gamskitz, Weisse Gams and Wilde Gams via ferratas.
Boarding
From the parking lot, go back to the access road and turn left onto Hintertal Street. Walk about 180 meters to the edge of the forest, where a sign indicates the start of the via ferrata.
Exit
Follow a marked footpath in the forest that leads you to a wide forest path. This takes you down to the street and back to the parking lot.
Interesting facts
A 5-minute walk from Gamskitz is the more demanding Weisse Gams via ferrata. The difficult Wilde Gams via ferrata is about a 15-minute walk from there. On the other side of the town is the Zahme Gams via ferrata. This was closed in 2016/2017 but is now in perfect condition and ready for use (October 2022). In Weißbach bei Lofer you will also find the well-known romantic gorge Seisenbergklamm, which is definitely worth a visit.
