Characteristics
The via ferrata, which was built in 2006 on the slope of the Hirschkopf directly near the village of Boppard, offers an easy route. It leads up small rocky stairs along the ski slopes and is interrupted by individual sections with hiking trails. Most passages can be negotiated with the help of ladders or brackets. A hiking trail also runs parallel to the via ferrata.
Arrival
You reach Boppard and park in the parking lot next to the tracks.
Boarding
From the parking lot, follow the signs in the direction of “Klettersteig”. You climb briefly towards Hirschkopf, pass the intersection with a hiking trail variant and finally reach the starting point of the via ferrata.
Exit
There are two ways to get back down the mountain. You can return to the parking lot (approx. 30 minutes walk) or follow the path and continue hiking along the ridge to Gasthaus Vierseenblick. From there you can either take the chairlift down or follow the hiking trail that leads to the so-called "Ripp" (ridge with flat rocky passages) and then down to the parking lot at the beginning of the Mühltal (approx. 2 hours walk).
Interesting facts
If the via ferrata is too demanding, you can easily return to the valley by chairlift - an experience similar to the Alps. At the summit of the Hirschkopf you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Rhine Valley.
