Characteristics

Via ferrata Munkstigen is unique in its seaside character. In terms of difficulty, it ranks among the easier via ferratas, but since it is located in a fjord, it has a considerable elevation gain. But the view of Trondheimsfjorden is worth it!

The first part of the via ferrata is not too steep and offers a nice terrace to relax on. Here the belay is broken and the via ferrata connects with the footpath that leads to the left of the starting point. You can also use this intersection as an escape route. The second part of the secured path is more airy and leads over a sharp ridge. It continues along the terrace and then follows a diagonal traverse, after which you climb to a ledge, from which you climb the rajbas to the top of Munken (518 m).

Arrival

Small car park located on road 755. Ferry option from Troinheim and then a few minutes down the road.

Onset

From the small parking lot on the left side of road number 755, which is located in the settlement of Langfjæra, follow the forest path in a northeasterly direction. Cross the bridge over the mountain stream and after 250 meters you will find the via ferrata.

Descent

Descend in a south-easterly direction along the ridge towards the Munksetran campsite and from there continue along the mountain stream to road 755 by the coast of Trondheimsfjord. Continue 1.7 km along the road in the direction of Aksnes until you come back to the small parking lot at the boarding point.
