Characteristics

The via ferrata absolutely requires a roller! There is a zip line on the via ferrata. There are also two bridges behind it. One with four ropes (so-called Tibetan bridge), where you step on one rope, hold on to the two side ropes and the fourth rope serves as safety over your head. The second bridge has three ropes that you walk on, while the remaining two ropes are overhead.

Otherwise it is an iron-rich path - exclusively with brackets. The sections are often very exposed (take water with you, you will be in the sun for a long time) and steep with beautiful views of the reservoir and the surrounding area.

The difficulty rating is "K3", which corresponds to the Austrian difficulty "C". Over a distance of 640 meters, you overcome a difference in altitude of 250 meters. The route takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes, the descent takes another 45 minutes. However, it is a well-known place and you might come across a group of tourists with a guide (local tour operators sell this as an adventure trip).

This is a new trail from 2017, built directly by the Spanish Mountaineering Federation. The via ferrata is somewhat challenging for beginners, mainly due to the zip line and frequent vertical climbs.

Arrival

Parking lot below the via ferrata: 36°54'45.354"N, 4°45'45.669"W

Parking lot 200 meters from the via ferrata: 36°54.64987'N, 4°45.67361'W

You can also take a bus or train to the village of El Chorro (Álora) and walk about 450 meters to the start of the via ferrata.

Boarding

Directly at the parking lot between the train tunnels. There is a large sign with the legend.

36°54.76254'N, 4°45.69782'W

The first 20 meters check whether you should continue. It is a steep climb with an incline in the upper part.

Exit

Through the beautiful mountain terrain along the well-trodden path. You get to the water and follow the river to the road at the Sillón del Rey reservoir.

The shorter route along the tracks and the railway tunnel is not recommended and forbidden (and, among other things, fenced off).

Interesting facts

Zip line = be sure to have a pulley with you as it cannot be avoided!

A special feature is the way the rope is attached to the rock, which is done with plates and nails (known from sport climbing). As a result, the rope lies completely against the rock wall at the point of attachment, which means that it is not completely tensioned and has considerable sagging...
