Characteristics
If you stand under the mountain wall of Monte Pelsa, you would never suspect that a really inviting via ferrata leads to its side summit. The climb runs elegantly in the almost 800 m high wall, has a steep start and an airy finale on a pillar. The absolute highlight is the wonderful view from the plateau summit of the Palazza Alta to the Civetta. The tour is a very popular destination at the beginning of the season. The southwest wall is usually already snowless when the high peaks are still covered with snow. The route lacks the alpine touch of the large Dolomite trails. Nevertheless, the climb should not be underestimated due to its length.
Arrival
From Canazei or Cortina d'Ampezzo towards Alleghe and Cencenighe. At the beginning of the village, turn left up to Bastiani or, if you take the direct descent, a little further to Bricol (1097 m).
Approach
From Bastiani or Bricol on path no. 562 to under the wall, then cross right under the wall to the entrance (1420 m); signposted and red dots.
Exit
You follow the plateau edge through Latschengassen to a small notch with red note "Cencenighe". Steep down there until you come to a band with a signposted fork in the road. There either 1. Via the unsecured direct descent to Bastiani (climbing points up to II, extremely dangerous when wet!). 2. Orographically right on the band to the junction with path no. 567 at the Biv. Col. Mandro (1844 m) and path no. 567 back to Collaz and Bastiani. One can also take the exit towards Rif. Descend Vazzola and take path 562 to Forcella di Col Mandro (2032 m) to the Biv. Col Mandro. From there to Collaz (recommended in case of unsafe weather, 4 hours).
Interesting facts
An old wooden sign points to the striking end pillar of the "Difficile variant", which is visible a little further to the left - one of the highlights that should not be missed if there is enough power.
