Characteristics
The Santa Elena via ferrata is easy and well secured. It begins below a concrete bunker and leads over several boulders to the ruins of the same name. The local difficulty rating is K1, mainly due to lots of brackets and low airiness that doesn't create fear. However, in our conditions this would correspond to difficulty level B.
Arrival
We drive to the village of Biescas and drive a little further north to the dam. We can park the car at the Santa Elena chapel. Alternatively, we cross the bridge and after the first bend there is another parking space near the bunkers.
Boarding
From the parking lot we take the lower path, not the one around the bunkers, and walk up to the sign with information about the via ferrata.
Exit
We go down the serpentine path. We have this on the right side after climbing to the via ferrata.
Interesting facts
It is also worth visiting the beautiful local church of Santa Elena and the waterfall with the cave.
