Characteristics
The interesting and only partially secured Via ferrata Franco Gadotti opens up the western summit of the Vallaccia mountain range. In contrast to the tours on the other side of the Fassa Valley, the Ferrara round - wrongly - is rarely visited. The former Höhepuntk - an adventurous slip through the devil's hole (two huge terminal blocks) - was defused. But the wonderful summit meadow remains on the Sass Aut! In summer, countless edelweiss bloom up there, which, together with the magnificent view, invite you to take a long break.
Arrival
On the Brenner motorway to Bolzano Nord. Turn through the Eggental valley and over the Karer pass into Val di Fassa to Pozza di Fassa and there into Val di San Nicolo and drive to Ristorante Malga al Crocifi sso.
Approach
Ascend from the restaurant on a narrow path (path 615B) into the Vallaccia valley and continue on path 615 to the Bivacco Donato Zeni (2100 m) (below the Bivacco is an secured ramp - short A). Keep right from the bivouac (path 617) and in a few minutes to the entrance (board).
Exit
From the exit on path 630, climb up to Forcella Baranchie (2628 m) (a short summit detour to Punta della Vallaccia is possible) and descend to Forcella de la Costela (2529 m). Cross on path 615 west of Punta della Vallaccia into Forcella Vallaccia (2468 m) and descend to Bivacco Donato Zeni. Continue on the ascent path. Alternatively, you can descend on path 624 via the Rifugio Vallaccia (2275 m) (descent time then 30 minutes longer than specified).
Interesting facts
Can be expanded with the Ferratas Bruno Federspiel and Bepi Zac to a grandiose but very long ridge crossing.
